Rick Owens – FW09 Paris “Celebrate the freak, create the creature”

Rick has always been known for his stellar use of raw and edgy proportions, but there were always a few pieces that could work better with just a tad bid of tailoring. Especially the longer wool coats. This fall winter collection appeals to me more than ever, mainly because Rick has focused/tweaked the tailoring of his outerwear and everything seems to flow flawlessly.
Every season there is a stand-out leather that you think can’t be topped, but I’m just fucking amazed at the croc asym leather. It reminds me of an older Balenciaga leather, but more modern and fitted.

The asymmetrical wool long coats along with the mink wraps, side drapey jackets, shorts/skirts all seem very familiar. His woman’s collections have always surpassed the men’s collections, but it seems that he has found a nice formula by incorporating certain woman’s pieces and proportions into the mens collection. It’s certainly a nice bounce back from his worst season, imo. (spring 09).

I will be patiently waiting for the crock leather and long high collar wool coat pictured below. They’ve also brought back the short big hooded parka back, but it doesn’t seem as flattering.
